Role overview

Leadership and operations

• Lead nursing services or hospital operations, and develop operational strategies, policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Manage staffing, workforce planning, budgets, equipment, and other operational resources.
• Monitor service performance, patient satisfaction, clinical quality indicators, and operational efficiency.
• Coordinate physicians, nursing teams, department heads, and administrative personnel to improve service delivery.

Quality, safety, and performance

• Ensure compliance with healthcare standards, safety requirements, accreditation criteria, and organizational policies.
• Establish and monitor performance indicators, operational reports, and quality improvement programs.
• Promote patient safety, infection prevention, risk management, and continuous quality improvement.
• Manage operational challenges, patient complaints, incidents, and service disruptions through corrective action.

People and organizational planning

• Oversee recruitment, training, performance evaluation, leadership development, and succession planning.
• Oversee resource allocation, facility utilization, equipment availability, and departmental coordination.
• Collaborate with senior management on budgets, business plans, operational policies, and service expansion strategies.

Role-specific scope

• Nursing Director roles oversee nursing standards, clinical staffing, professional development, and nursing practice improvement.
• Hospital Operations Director roles oversee hospital-wide administrative and operational functions, interdepartmental coordination, cost management, and service performance.
• Support healthcare audits, accreditation activities, internal reviews, and quality assurance initiatives.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, Hospital Administration, or a related field.
• Relevant leadership experience in nursing management, hospital operations, healthcare administration, or clinical service management.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare operations, patient safety, quality management, clinical or administrative workflows, regulations, accreditation, risk management, and service quality.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, budgets, staffing, and operational resources; strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in performance monitoring, operational reporting, process improvement, and strategic planning.
• Proficiency in healthcare information systems, Microsoft Office, and relevant reporting tools; strong organization and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Professional nursing qualifications and applicable registration are required for Nursing Director positions where relevant.
• Postgraduate qualifications and director-level strategic leadership, organizational development, financial management, or large-scale healthcare operations experience are preferred.
