About This Role
Overview
- The Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) provides care for adult patients requiring surgical treatment of cardiac or thoracic problems.
- This population includes patients requiring or having had thoracic surgery of the heart, lungs or great vessels.
- Off-service patients requiring ICU, cardiac monitoring or other nursing services may be admitted based on the availability of beds.
- Most commonly seen surgical procedures include:
- Coronary artery bypass surgery
- Valve repair and/or replacement
- Thoracic aortic aneurysm repair
- Heart transplant
- Congenital cardiac defect repairs
- ECMOVAD bridge to recovery and/or transplant
- Pacemaker implantation
- Left ventricular assist device
- Assist with emergency procedures at bed side (open chest, ECMO cannulation, percutaneous tracheostomy)
