University Language Center is a foreign language services company offering interpreting, translation, proficiency testing, and language instruction to businesses, social service organizations, public and private schools, and individuals.

Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Interpreting Manager, the Multicultural Specialist and Interpreting Services Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of day-to-day support of interpreting services, proficiency testing, and language-related services.

The individual should be able to work under pressure and maintain a sense of humor during busy times.

They also provide excellent customer service under direction.

Job Duties

  • Supporting the entire service cycle from receiving the order to staffing the request
  • Serving as the first point of contact via phone and email between clients and vendors
  • Negotiating contractor pay rates and requirements with vendors
  • Developing language talent through training in addition to on-going recruiting efforts
  • Educating industry stakeholders on best practices and procedures
  • Participating in department meetings, management meetings, and strategic planning for the department
  • Provide remote support for after-hours emergency calls approximately every 5-6 weeks (usually 1/2 hour per day for the designated on-call week)
  • Supporting compliance by contacting vendors for documentation to satisfy regulations
  • Performing other related duties

  • Ability to work independently, multitask and prioritize
  • Ability to focus and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to adhere to set work schedules and maintain a consistent, reliable presence to support team operations
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Teams to deliver real-time updates, fostering seamless communication and collaboration within the team
  • Using customized software to manage interpreting services and communications
  • Providing concise, accurate, and timely oral and written communications to all stakeholders
  • High level of linguistic accuracy with proper names, addresses, dates, and times
  • Sensitivity to and/or understanding of people from different cultures and countries
  • Ability to speak to and understand non-native English speakers
  • Ability to work with a dynamic team, results driven, and self-motivated in completing tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs, sit for extended periods of time (3 hrs), type on a computer keyboard, and use office telephone, fax, and copier machine

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years of practical work experience in a customer service-related profession
  • Superior proficiency in spoken & written English
  • Proficiency in email and Microsoft Office such as: Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Classification and Compensation
  • Hourly rate starting at $22 per hour.
  • This is a full time (40 hours), non-exempt position with flexible working hours Monday-Friday between 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM.

Position hours are flexible, but candidate will need to either open or close on days they work.

During the first 90 days, training is in office full-time, unless other arrangements have been negotiated.

Hybrid work schedule (up to 50% remote) eligible following training period.

Candidate must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work.

Position is eligible for voluntary overtime at 1.5x hourly rate.
