About This Role
Overview
The **Metering Technician** is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and verification of metering systems used to measure the flow and transfer of crude oil, natural gas, condensate, refined products, and water.
The role ensures accurate and reliable measurement for custody transfer, production allocation, and regulatory reporting.
This position supports fiscal and operational metering systems, including flow computers, analyzers, proving systems, and associated instrumentation, while ensuring compliance with international standards and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot flow meters, transmitters, analyzers, and flow computers.
- Perform verification and diagnostics on custody transfer and fiscal metering systems.
- Maintain measurement devices such as ultrasonic, Coriolis, turbine, positive displacement, and differential pressure flow meters.
- Operate and maintain proving systems, including master meters and prover loops.
- Configure and troubleshoot flow computers and electronic measurement systems.
- Calibrate pressure, temperature, and differential pressure transmitters used in flow calculations.
- Maintain gas chromatographs, densitometers, water-cut analyzers, and BS&W analyzers.
- Perform meter factor calculations and uncertainty checks.
- Conduct meter proving and validation in accordance with American Petroleum Institute API and International Organization of Legal Metrology OIML standards.
- Troubleshoot communication systems using HART, Modbus, and serial/Ethernet networks.
- Review and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and metering schematics.
- Generate calibration records, proving reports, and maintenance documentation.
- Support commissioning, shutdowns, and performance testing.
- Coordinate with operations, measurement engineers, and third-party inspectors.
- Comply with permit-to-work procedures and HSE requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Technical Certificate in Instrumentation.
- 0–5+ years of experience with oil and gas metering systems.
- Strong understanding of custody transfer and fiscal measurement principles.
- Experience with flow computers and proving systems.
- Knowledge of relevant API, ISO, and OIML standards.
- Proficiency in calibration and diagnostic tools.
