Overview
The Medical Oncologist is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment planning, and management of patients with cancer using systemic therapies such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy.
The role involves multidisciplinary collaboration to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered oncology care aligned with UAE regulatory and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with various types of cancers.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal, and targeted therapies.
- Monitor treatment response, manage side effects, and adjust treatment protocols accordingly.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborate with surgical, radiation, and other specialties.
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient records in compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., SHA/DHA).
- Provide counseling and support to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.
- Stay updated with advancements in oncology and incorporate evidence-based practices.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff where applicable.
