The Challenge
Your job: determine where marketing crosses legal boundaries—where a blog post becomes investment advice, where a promotional campaign requires financial promotion approval, and where offshore conduct of business rules conflict across multiple jurisdictions.
You'll conduct legal and regulatory research to interpret how marketing regulations apply to Deriv's content globally.
You assess when content triggers regulated activity requirements, advise on cross-border solicitation rules, and provide legal guidance when marketing teams want to promote products where regulatory frameworks haven't caught up to innovation.
You make calls on complex legal questions: Is this financial promotion?
Does this require licensing?
Can we say this in jurisdiction X but not Y?
This isn't content review.
It's legal interpretation of marketing boundaries where regulatory frameworks are ambiguous and where getting it wrong creates licensing exposure.

- You'll solve complex legal questions daily. Interpret how marketing regulations apply when frameworks conflict, when products don't fit traditional categories, and when offshore rules have different stringency levels.
- You'll conduct regulatory legal research. Deep dives into regulatory frameworks, and emerging regimes to understand how marketing compliance actually works across jurisdictions.
- You'll use AI tools we're building. Partner with engineers to automate compliance checks while focusing your legal expertise on interpretation and judgment calls.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct legal and regulatory research on marketing regulations, solicitation rules, and cross-border promotional requirements. Interpret how frameworks apply to Deriv's content and products.
- Assess when marketing content triggers regulated activity requirements. Determine legal boundaries between general marketing and financial promotion across jurisdictions.
- Provide legal guidance on cross-border marketing campaigns. Advise when content complies in one jurisdiction but violates rules in another.
- Review marketing materials where legal interpretation is required. Make calls on ambiguous content where regulatory frameworks aren't clear.
- Advise on licensing and solicitation rules. Research when promotional activities require specific licenses or trigger conduct of business obligations.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting marketing compliance. Assess impact of new frameworks on Deriv's promotional activities.
- Partner with legal and compliance teams on complex marketing legal questions. Bridge marketing objectives with regulatory legal requirements.
- Leverage AI tools to support compliance reviews while focusing legal expertise on interpretation and strategic guidance.
Who You Are
- 5+ years in legal or compliance with focus on regulatory legal research, marketing compliance, or financial promotions. You've interpreted complex regulatory frameworks and provided legal guidance on ambiguous questions.
- You have legal training or strong legal background. Law degree or extensive legal-compliance experience. You understand how to research and interpret regulatory legal requirements.
- You conduct regulatory legal research. You dive into legislation, regulatory guidance, and frameworks to understand how rules actually apply—not just surface-level compliance.
- You understand financial services marketing regulations. Knowledge of MiFID, offshore conduct of business frameworks, or financial promotion rules.
Experience
- navigating cross-border marketing complexity.
- You make judgment calls on ambiguous legal questions. You're comfortable providing legal guidance when frameworks aren't clear and when marketing innovation creates novel questions.
- You're commercially pragmatic. You help marketing achieve objectives within legal boundaries, not just identify restrictions.
- You communicate clearly with marketing and legal stakeholders. Strong English. You explain complex legal interpretations in terms teams can act on.
- You're comfortable with AI and automation. You see technology as support for legal judgment, not replacement.
