The Mechanical Draftsman prepares and coordinates mechanical drawings for oil storage terminals, API 650 tanks, tank farms, piping systems, and industrial facilities.
Drawings must support construction, fabrication, installation, and as-built documentation and comply with project requirements and applicable standards.
Drafting and coordination duties
- Prepare tank general arrangement, plan, elevation, sectional, and detailed drawings, including tank plates, nozzles, access structures, and accessories.
- Produce piping layouts, isometrics, spool fabrication, supports, tie-ins, underground and utility layouts, and drawings for terminal facilities.
- Prepare equipment layouts, support and fabrication details, and tank foundation interface and embedded-item coordination drawings.
- Interpret engineering documents and convert sketches, markups, and site instructions into accurate drawings.
- Manage drawing revisions, registers, numbering, electronic files, CAD standards, and project documentation.
- Coordinate with project and engineering teams, verify dimensions and interfaces, and incorporate approved client and consultant comments.
- Assist with quantity take-offs and bills of materials; conduct site measurements and support site teams with drawing discrepancies.
Experience and capabilities
- Practical experience with mechanical drawings for industrial facilities, storage tanks, tank farms, and piping systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and ability to interpret engineering drawings, project specifications, design markups, and technical documents.
- Experience in several listed drafting areas, including API 650 tanks, piping isometrics, spool fabrication, supports, equipment layouts, and oil and gas piping.
