Mechanical Designer for Weapon Systems
About This Role
Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical & Systems Engineer to lead the development, analysis, and integration of missile and guided weapon systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in kinematics, mechanism design, and system-level integration, with a strong focus on manufacturability, ruggedization, and real-time control system validation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and analyze kinematics and mechanical mechanisms for missile and weapon systems.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) approaches to ensure precise part manufacturing, assembly, and system integration.
- Support control systems development for both onboard and ground systems of guided air vehicles.
- Conduct Model-in-Loop (MiL) simulations for Electro-Mechanical, Electro-Hydraulic, Electro-Pneumatic, or hybrid systems.
- Apply Hardware-in-Loop (HiL) tools to validate system performance in real-time.
- Design mechanical systems to withstand high G ruggedization techniques and high spin rates.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to optimize system design, performance, and reliability.
- Apply GD&T principles in part design and assembly, particularly for defense applications.
Required Qualifications:
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 10β20+ years of engineering experience, specifically in missile, torpedo, artillery shell, or guided munition systems.
- Strong fundamentals in at least two of the following areas:
- Solid mechanics
- Dynamics & vibration
- Heat transfer
- Fatigue & fracture mechanics
- Thermo-mechanical analysis
- Hands-on experience in material modeling and mechanical system integration.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced expertise in mechanical design and CAD tools.
- Experience with control system modeling, MiL, and HiL testing frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of precision manufacturing, assembly, and ruggedization techniques.
- Proficiency in electromechanical, electrohydraulic, and electropneumatic system modeling.
- Familiarity with GD&T standards, ideally applied to weapon systems.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior involvement in high-speed or high-spin mechanical system designs.
- Experience bridging mechanical, control, and systems engineering disciplines.
- Exposure to defense or aerospace system integration environments.
Key Attributes:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex system development.
- Ability to collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and control system teams.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on manufacturability, reliability, and performance under extreme conditions.
- Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
