Mechanical Design Engineer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review and approve engineering designs that meet safety, quality, customer and contractual requirements.
• Support mechanical engineering for ABB medium-voltage switchgear and related product and solution portfolios across global factories.
• Collaborate with customers and project teams to clarify needs, define solutions and resolve issues through the project lifecycle.
• Use checklists and applicable standards and engineering guidelines to verify designs.
• Coordinate with supply chain, manufacturing, testing, commissioning and service teams to ensure designs are correctly built, installed and updated.
• Identify risks and drive continuous improvement, standardization and optimization of engineering processes.
• Complete project assignments cost-effectively and apply basic design thinking and Design for Excellence concepts.

Qualifications and experience

• Full-time bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Two to five years of experience in Mechanical Design, Design to Order (DTO), or Project Engineering.
• Hands-on CAD experience, including SolidWorks, AutoCAD or other 3D CAD software; proficiency in engineering drawings, sheet-metal design and BOM preparation.
• Knowledge of engineering materials, material standards and manufacturing processes, including IS, EN, ISO, DIN and ASME standards.
• Experience or exposure to medium-voltage switchgear products and knowledge of applicable IEC/ANSI standards.
• Familiarity with IEC and IEEE standards and their application in product design and engineering.
• Ability to collaborate across geographies and cultures in a virtual, multicultural organization; strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Work model and location

• The work model is identified as onsite.
• The role contributes to the Distribution Solutions division in Nashik, India.
