Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience maintaining heavy equipment, heavy-transport equipment, industrial cranes, hydraulic lifting equipment, SPMTs, hydraulic gantries, or comparable complex equipment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair capabilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems, including pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, accumulators, steering systems, suspension systems, lifting systems, and hydraulic power units.
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot hydraulic schematics and P&IDs.
  • Experience performing hydraulic pressure and flow testing and diagnosing restriction, leakage, overheating, and contamination-related issues.
  • Experience troubleshooting 12V/24V DC electrical systems and ability to read electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Experience using multimeters and other electrical/hydraulic diagnostic equipment.
  • Understanding of sensors, solenoids, relays, switches, controllers, proportional controls, and electronic control systems.
  • Experience with diesel engines and diesel-powered hydraulic PPUs.
  • Ability to systematically isolate mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic control, and instrumentation failures rather than relying solely on component replacement.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, equipment preparation, and functional testing.
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices, Lockout/Tagout, stored hydraulic energy, suspended-load hazards, and heavy-equipment maintenance hazards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in workshop and field environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to project locations throughout the United States.
  • English proficiency, verbal and written.
  • Ability to complete Mammoet-required safety training and certifications.

Heavy Industrial Crane Qualifications (Great to have, but not required)

  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting heavy industrial cranes, including crawler cranes, large hydraulic mobile cranes, or comparable heavy-lifting equipment.
  • Working knowledge of crane hydraulic systems, including pumps, motors, cylinders, control valves, accumulators, cooling systems, and filtration systems.
  • Experience inspecting and troubleshooting hoists, winches, brakes, gearboxes, drums, sheaves, wire rope, boom systems, and travel/swing systems.
  • Understanding of crane electrical and electronic control systems, sensors, limit switches, load-monitoring systems, and safety/interlock circuits.
  • Ability to troubleshoot crane hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and control-system faults using schematics and diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience with diesel engines, hydraulic PPUs, and power-transmission systems used in heavy lifting equipment.
  • Knowledge of crane inspection criteria and ability to identify mechanical, hydraulic, structural, or electrical conditions requiring repair or escalation.
  • Understanding of hazards associated with suspended loads, counterweights, boom systems, stored energy, crane assembly/disassembly, and heavy-lifting operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience maintaining or repairing Goldhofer SPMTs and hydraulic modular trailers.
  • Experience with Scheuerle, Cometto, or comparable SPMT/heavy-transport equipment.
  • Direct experience maintaining hydraulic gantry systems and synchronized hydraulic lifting equipment.
  • Experience maintaining diesel-powered hydraulic PPUs.
  • Experience with Liebherr, Manitowoc, Demag/Terex, Tadano, Grove, or comparable heavy industrial crane equipment.
  • Experience with proportional hydraulic controls and high-pressure hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of CAN bus, CANopen, J1939, PLC, or similar mobile/industrial equipment communication and control systems.
  • Experience diagnosing controller, I/O, sensor, remote-control, and communication faults.
  • Experience with hydraulic contamination control, filtration, flushing, and oil sampling.
  • Experience with crane assembly/disassembly, heavy lift, rigging, jacking, skidding, or heavy-haul operations.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience in construction, civil engineering, renewables, oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, offshore, ports, or mining environments.
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • The ideal EMD Mechanic is a diagnostic technician who understands how hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, diesel power, instrumentation, and electronic control systems interact across complex heavy-lift and heavy-transport equipment.
  • A strong candidate can determine whether an equipment fault originates from a mechanical component, hydraulic circuit, electrical circuit, sensor or instrumentation feedback, electronic controller, communication network, power unit, or system calibration. The mechanic should be capable of moving from symptom to root cause rather than relying primarily on component replacement.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical judgment, attention to detail, safety awareness, equipment ownership, adaptability, and the ability to perform effectively in demanding heavy-lift, heavy-haul, workshop, and field-service environments.
