Job Description

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented

Material Inspector

to join our team!

In this role you will get to ensure all construction materials used on the island project meet the required standards and specifications—inspecting deliveries, witnessing tests, and keeping clear records of approvals and non-conformances.

You’ll work closely with site teams and laboratories to safeguard quality from source to installation, helping ensure the island’s infrastructure is durable, safe, and built to last.

What You'Ll Be Doing

  • Inspect and verify all incoming construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Check delivery documents, certificates of origin, mill test certificates, and compliance/quality certificates for materials supplied to site.
  • Coordinate and witness laboratory and field tests for materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, aggregates, steel, and coatings, and review test reports against acceptance criteria.
  • Carry out random sampling of materials in accordance with project ITPs and relevant codes, ensuring proper labelling, storage, and traceability.
  • Identify, record, and report any non-conforming materials, initiate non-conformance reports (NCRs)(NCRs), and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
  • Verify proper storage, handling, and protection of materials on site, with particular attention to corrosion and durability in the island’s marine/coastal environment.
  • Support site engineers and inspectors by confirming that only approved materials are used in structural, civil, and finishing works.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of material inspections, test results, approvals, rejections, and related correspondence.
  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and laboratories to resolve material-related issues and clarify requirements from specifications and standards.
  • Assist in reviewing material submittals, datasheets, and samples presented by contractors before approval.
  • Contribute to regular quality and progress meetings, providing updates on material compliance, testing status, and any risks to construction quality.
  • Promote and support health, safety, and environmental requirements during sampling, testing, storage, and handling of materials on site.

What Required Skills You'Ll Bring

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related technical qualification.
  • Relevant experience 5-7 years in material inspection or quality control on infrastructure construction projects
  • Good knowledge of common construction materials and their properties, including concrete, steel, asphalt, aggregates, masonry, and pipes.
  • Familiarity with material testing procedures and standards
  • Experience working with ITPs, sampling plans, test reports, and NCR processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential quality issues and risks.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Office for reporting and records management.
  • Good communication skills to coordinate with contractors, labs, suppliers, and the supervision team.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental protocols in testing and handling of materials.

What Desired Skills You'Ll Bring

  • Experience on island, coastal, or marine-related projects where durability and corrosion resistance are critical.
  • Familiarity with materials suitable for marine environments
  • Exposure to accredited testing laboratories and quality management systems (e.g., ISO-based procedures).
  • Ability to use digital tools for logging inspections, storing test results, and tracking approvals.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain systematic records for audits and handover.
  • Flexibility to work in a remote island setting and adapt to varied site conditions and schedules.
  • Parsons equally employs representation at all job levels no matter the race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, disability or genetic information.
  • We truly invest and care about our employee’s wellbeing and provide endless growth opportunities as the sky is the limit, so aim for the stars!
