Role Description
This role is responsible for day-to-day oversight of a subset of MNCH investments, ensuring high-quality grant management, technical rigor, and effective execution.
Operating in a start-up foundation environment, this role manages complex, multi-country grants and partnerships across maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health, while contributing substantively to portfolio strategy, learning, and cross-pillar integration.
Portfolio & Program Management
- Manage a portfolio of MNCH grants and investments, ensuring strong execution, performance, and alignment with approved strategies.
- Support the Senior Director / Director in shaping portfolio plans, annual workplans, and investment pipelines.
- Provide technical and programmatic oversight to partners, supporting effective implementation and problem-solving.
- Monitor portfolio progress, risks, and results, and proactively flag issues and opportunities to senior leadership.
Grant & Investment Lifecycle Management
- Manage the full grant lifecycle for assigned MNCH investments, from concept development and due diligence through approval, implementation oversight, and close-out.
- Support the preparation of high-quality concept notes, proposals, and draft investment memoranda for internal review and governance processes.
- Review partner proposals, budgets, and implementation plans, ensuring technical soundness, feasibility, and value for money.
- Oversee grant agreements, amendments, reporting requirements, and close-out documentation in collaboration with legal, finance, and operations teams.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality partner reporting and portfolio documentation.
Implementation, Learning & Adaptive Management
- Track implementation progress against milestones, budgets, and results frameworks.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities, including data review, partner check-ins, and learning synthesis.
- Identify implementation challenges and contribute to adaptive management and course correction.
- Support cross-portfolio learning and coordination, particularly with Health Workforce, Infectious Diseases, and Health Infrastructure teams.
Partnerships & Communications
- Maintain strong working relationships with implementing partners, technical agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Represent the Foundation in partner meetings, technical discussions, and coordination forums, as appropriate.
- Contribute to internal and external communications products, including briefs, updates, and learning materials.
Financial & Operational Oversight
- Review partner budgets, financial reports, and forecasts to ensure alignment with approved plans and effective use of resources.
- Support financial planning, grant compliance, and risk management across assigned MNCH investments.
Base Location
The position is based in Abu Dhabi with approximately 15–20% travel to priority program countries in Africa and Asia.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in public health, maternal and child health, international development, or a related field.
- At least five (5) years of relevant experience in MNCH or health systems programming, preferably in low- and middle-income country contexts.
- Demonstrated experience managing grants, partners, and complex projects.
- Strong understanding of MNCH evidence, global frameworks, and service delivery approaches.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
