The AI team builds solutions using generative AI, LLMs, and agentic systems grounded in customer data to make legal professionals’ work more efficient.

The engineering organization aims to deliver strong customer experiences.

What You Will Do

  • Lead ML engineers building AI for clients, primarily with agentic systems and LLMs, alongside traditional machine learning models.
  • Guide design and delivery of agentic systems, including retrieval, tool use, orchestration, and evaluation frameworks for reliable and safe production use.
  • Partner with MLOps engineering, product management, operations, and data science to identify tooling for ML- and LLM-driven customer features.
  • Work in an agile environment with ML engineers, MLOps, and full-stack developers across projects.
  • Participate in projects and collaborate with engineering teams across three countries.
  • Review and provide code feedback within the team and across Clio.
  • Collaborate across teams to diagnose and solve problems and build solutions spanning multiple areas.
  • Teach and learn from colleagues, give constructive feedback, and receive feedback to support growth.

What You May Have

  • Experience managing high-performing teams.
  • Experience technically evaluating ML and LLM products, vendors, and out-of-the-box solutions, and conducting proof-of-concepts as needed.
  • In-depth understanding of agentic systems, LLMs, and the competitive landscape and direction of the technology.
  • Hands-on familiarity with tool-calling agents, RAG pipelines, prompt and context design, and evaluating agent behavior at scale.
  • Experience fine-tuning foundational models and/or training language models in-house.
  • Experience manipulating, cleaning, and preprocessing complex unstructured data for model development.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work effectively with distributed teams and customers in an evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring in software development, particularly with Agile processes and large-scale SaaS products.
  • Broad technical knowledge for complex problem-solving and a history of projects, successes, and lessons learned.
  • Clear, concise communication and ability to build high-trust relationships with colleagues and customers.

Workplace

  • The role is available to candidates across Canada.
  • Hybrid work environment; local employees in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Dublin, London, New York City, and Sydney are expected in the office at least twice per week.

Compensation

  • Expected salary range is CAD $181,360–$272,040; initial placement depends on geographic region, experience, and skillset, and final offers vary by candidate profile.

Total Rewards

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Flexible time off policy, with 20 days off per year encouraged.
  • Annual counseling benefit of $2,000.
  • RRSP matching and RESP contribution.
  • Recognition program at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years.
