Duties

  • What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as the Management and Program Analyst. Typical assignments include: 1. Providing technical, administrative, and GIS advice and assistance on matters related to the Risk MAP program, including defending controversial findings in public or high-level forums. 2. Ensuring conformance with FEMA mapping standards and recommends modifications so that hazard maps and flood risk studies provide a sound basis for insurance rating and floodplain management measures while reflecting current policy and legal requirements. 3. Performing a full range of project management duties including ensuring documentation management, the appropriate method for conducting a study is chosen, and the costs associated with studies is monitored. 4. Serving in grants administration and contracting functions, including Contracting Officer's Technical Representative. 5. Supporting FEMA and state, local, and tribal partners in developing innovative and effective outreach techniques and communications strategies to increase the public's risk awareness and drive action to reduce risk. What else do I need to know? At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management. Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
