About the role
The employer’s client seeks a Machining Shop Supervisor for its CNC shop team.
The supervisor leads and supports team members operating CNC lathes and/or mills to produce custom parts and products.
The shop produces low-volume parts for the oil and gas and heavy construction industries.
The role includes training, machine setup oversight, quality and accuracy standards, and schedule accountability.
Responsibilities
- Guide machinists operating CNC lathes and/or mills to cut metal components accurately and meet quality standards.
- Assign daily tasks, coordinate sequencing, and track progress.
- Support hiring and training new team members.
- Help team members read and interpret drawings and fabrication layouts.
- Set up CNC machines, report maintenance or repair needs, and perform routine maintenance.
- Operate machines as needed and provide hands-on mentorship in the shop.
- Work with the shop team and manager to complete work safely and within schedule.
- Maintain a clean and organized machine shop.
Skills and requirements
- Experience as a Lead Hand, Foreman, or Supervisor at a machining shop.
- CNC Journeyman Machinist red seal.
- Strong experience operating a CNC lathe and/or CNC mill; experience with both is a plus.
- Okuma and/or Haas equipment experience is a strong asset, not mandatory.
- Experience producing custom, low-volume machined components for oil and gas or heavy construction clients.
- Experience machining primarily with steel and other metals.
- Strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Ability to find quick solutions and implement them proactively as problems arise.
