Logistics Cost Accountant

About This Role

MDK Extra is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Logistics Cost Accountant to join our finance team in Doha, Qatar. This role will focus on the financial management of logistics operations, analyzing costs across transportation, warehousing, inventory, and distribution. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost accounting, logistics finance, and a keen ability to provide actionable financial insights to optimize operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and track all logistics-related costs, including transportation, freight, storage, inventory, and distribution
• Prepare and maintain detailed cost reports that provide insights into variances, trends, and cost-saving opportunities
• Develop, implement, and refine cost allocation models for logistics activities, ensuring accuracy and transparency across operations
• Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to ensure accurate financial documentation and alignment with operational strategies
• Analyze financial data to monitor logistics KPIs such as cost per shipment, cost per unit, and freight cost efficiency
• Assist in the budgeting and forecasting processes for logistics and supply chain operations, ensuring cost control and financial alignment
• Provide detailed analysis and reporting for management regarding logistics financial performance and potential optimization areas
• Support the reconciliation of accounts payable and receivable related to logistics transactions, ensuring timely payments and receipts
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and financial regulations specific to logistics finance
• Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, ensuring accuracy in logistics financial statements
• Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure accurate and complete financial records

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
• Proven experience as a cost accountant or financial analyst in logistics, supply chain, or transportation sectors
• Strong knowledge of logistics operations, including freight, warehousing, and inventory cost structures
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills
• High attention to detail and the ability to manage complex financial data efficiently
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with other teams

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in logistics finance, shipping cost management, or supply chain operations
• Familiarity with cost optimization techniques and financial modeling in logistics
• Knowledge of global logistics regulations, shipping contracts, and financial compliance
• Professional certifications such as CPA, CMA, or ACCA are a plus
