Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Letter of Credit (LC) Senior Specialist to support our commodities trading operations, with a strong focus on crude oil and petroleum products oil transactions.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise from a top-tier international bank, or oil and commodity trading house combined with established relationships across the oil trading ecosystem.

This role is critical in ensuring secure, efficient, and compliant trade finance and Letter of Credit execution.

Responsibilities

  • Structure, issue, and manage Letters of Credit (LCs) for physical oil and energy commodity trades
  • Liaise with international banks, traders, counterparties, to execute transactions smoothly where the LC or credit security contractual terms are concerned
  • Review and negotiate LC terms to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with trade contracts
  • Manage end-to-end LC lifecycle, including amendments, document checking, and settlement including bank charges and costs
  • Ensure compliance with international trade finance regulations (e.g., UCP 600, ISBP)
  • Monitor counterparty risk (KYC) and advise on creditworthiness of the clients in coordination with risk and compliance teams
  • Resolve discrepancies in shipping and trade documentation that impact the LCs or the payments
  • Maintain strong relationships with the LC officers in the banks that are dealing with the issuance and negotiation of the LCs,
  • Support front-office trading operations
  • Manage the Commodities Cash Flow and liaise closely with the Treasury and Accounts departments of the firm. Ensure payments are on time and are properly recorded.
  • Stay updated on market practices, regulatory changes, and sanctions compliance (e.g., OFAC, EU, UK)

Experience

  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in trade finance, specifically Letters of Credit operations linked to the oil industry
  • Background in the LC department of an oil or gas trading company
  • Proven experience supporting crude oil, products or energy commodity trading
  • Strong network of banking relationships relevant to oil trading markets
  • Deep knowledge of LC documentation, international trade rules (UCP 600), and compliance standards
  • Strong attention to detail and risk management mindset
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment
  • Familiarity with shipping/logistics documentation (Bills of Lading, inspection certificates, etc.) and their relevance to the oil trading and LC operations
  • Exposure to emerging markets and complex jurisdictions

Educational Qualification

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field

Skills

  • Deep expertise in Letters of Credit and full trade finance lifecycle management, including structuring, negotiation, and execution
  • Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, compliance, and sanctions (UCP 600, ISBP, OFAC, EU, UK)
  • Advanced risk assessment capability, including credit analysis, KYC, and mitigation of operational and counterparty risks
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
