Description

The Learning Design & Development (LDD) team within Global Operations Learning & Development (GOLD) seeks an Learning Architect to serve as the dedicated strategic design partner for Amazon's Rest of World (RoW) Learning & Development function. This role is a strategic bridge between the central LDD organization and RoW regional teams, ensuring that RoW learning programs benefit from GOLD's evolving design standards, modern frameworks, and AI-enabled capabilities while maintaining the regional customization that RoW's unique talent pipeline requires. This is not a traditional Instructional Designer role. You will provide holistic portfolio oversight, design consultation, and future-forward strategic partnership to the RoW program team. You will ensure RoW stays connected to where the L&D function is going, not just where it is today.

Key job responsibilities

Strategic Alignment & Integration

  • Drive closer integration between RoW and the central LDD team, ensuring RoW programs stay connected to GOLD standards, design processes, and quality frameworks
  • Identify opportunities where GOLD offerings can be adopted or adapted for RoW needs (the 70/30 standardization model), and where custom-built programs must remain
  • Champion adoption of LDD's evolving content architecture and AI-enabled design frameworks within the RoW portfolio
  • Serve as RoW's representative in LDD planning and governance processes

Portfolio Oversight & Design Consultation

  • Provide a comprehensive, holistic view of the RoW learning portfolio across all programs (Amazon Leadership, Behind the Smile, T3 Development/Stepping Up to Leadership, Upskilling)
  • Partner with RoW Product Managers on learning design evaluation, program architecture, and strategic design recommendations
  • Evaluate the design quality and strategic alignment of RoW programs, recommending improvements grounded in evidence and best practice
  • Support program evaluation methodology and measurement of learning effectiveness for RoW-specific initiatives

Future-Forward L&D Partnership

  • Help RoW stay ahead of where the L&D function is going rather than executing primarily tactical work
  • Identify emerging learning design approaches, AI-enabled workflows, and modern content strategies relevant to RoW's needs
  • Translate LDD innovation (AI content workflows, modular content architecture, quality automation) into actionable recommendations for RoW adoption
  • Provide thought leadership on how RoW's critical talent pipeline programs should evolve

Coordination & Resource Direction

  • Coordinate ringfenced development contractors who support RoW content builds
  • Translate design consultation into clear development briefs and quality expectations for contractor resources
  • Establish and maintain a working rhythm with the RoW program team for intake, design review, and delivery coordination
  • A day in the life
  • A Day in the LifeA typical week in this role might include:
  • Monday: Review the RoW program pipeline with the Product Manager team to identify upcoming design needs. Assess an intake request for a new regional leadership program and determine whether a GOLD-standard offering can be adapted or whether custom design is required.
  • Tuesday: Join a design consultation session with a RoW program manager who is evolving the Tier 3 Development pathway. Provide learning architecture recommendations, reference relevant GOLD frameworks, and draft a design brief for contractor development resources.
  • Wednesday: Participate in the central LDD governance meeting to stay connected to GOLD-wide design standards and share insights on RoW-specific challenges. Identify a new AI-enabled content workflow being piloted centrally that could accelerate RoW content localization.
  • Thursday: Conduct a design quality review of an existing RoW program, evaluating alignment with updated GOLD standards. Prepare a recommendation brief with specific improvement opportunities and a prioritized action plan.
  • Friday: Synthesize the week's portfolio activity into a status update for the LDD Design Manager. Draft a proposal for how an upcoming GOLD offering could be customized for the LATAM and APAC regions, outlining what stays standard and what requires regional adaptation.
