Role Overview

Lead Engineer role focused on backend and full-stack capabilities for Mastercard's Decision Management Platform.

The platform scores and approves payment transactions in real time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own capabilities from problem definition through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Build scalable services, APIs, workflow tools, frontend experiences, and integrations.
  • Set technical direction, make architecture decisions, and mentor engineers through reviews and coaching.
  • Use AI coding tools and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver working software and measurable outcomes.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on software engineering experience with backend services, APIs, full-stack applications, or complex production systems.
  • Experience owning technical work end to end and strong software design, architecture, API, data modeling, testing, security, performance, and troubleshooting fundamentals.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction through reviews and communication.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Relevant Experience

  • The candidate should bring depth in several areas; experience in every listed area is not required.
  • Relevant areas include backend and full-stack applications, APIs, integrations, workflow tools, dashboards, and operational interfaces.
  • Other relevant areas include distributed or low-latency systems, decisioning, transaction processing, AI/ML, inference, LLM-enabled products, and AI-assisted development.

Pay Ranges

  • Published annual salary ranges are $161,000–$266,000 for Arlington, Virginia, and $140,000–$231,000 for Atlanta, Georgia.
