Role overview

Lead a greenfield SRE and reliability initiative for a large-scale, security-focused product.

Define system health across approximately 70 cloud-service and customer-hosted-agent components.

Build telemetry and reliability foundations while shaping operational culture and measurable outcomes.

Accountabilities

  • Define SLIs, ownership, measurement, tiering, SLOs, and error budgets for approximately 70 product components.
  • Develop a reliability taxonomy covering availability, latency, fleet reachability, configuration convergence, security-control efficacy, artifact delivery, and telemetry health.
  • Design telemetry collection for customer-hosted agents and cloud services while balancing push collection, sampling, privacy, data quality, and cardinality.
  • Extend instrumentation across Python, Go, and Rust components with product engineering teams.
  • Consolidate dashboards, queries, and reporting into a smaller observability platform and retire low-value tooling.
  • Implement SLO-driven alerting with multi-window burn-rate principles and clear page, ticket, and dashboard classifications.
  • Give every production alert an owner, failure mode, and actionable runbook, with ongoing alert-quality reviews.
  • Build ownership and escalation routing, establish severity and handoff practices, and strengthen incident command and blameless postmortems.
  • Coach engineering squads to own operational responsibilities and deliver measurable reliability improvements during the first year.

Requirements

  • Substantial production engineering or SRE experience, including defining and implementing an SLO framework.
  • Strong Python skills and the ability to read and modify Go or Rust code.
  • Hands-on experience with Prometheus/OpenMetrics, Grafana, Alertmanager-class systems, and ClickHouse or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience debugging distributed systems on bare metal and long-lived hosts, beyond Kubernetes-centric operations.
  • Production-scale configuration management and CI/CD experience with tools such as Ansible, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
  • Understanding of push-based telemetry, sampling, clock skew, partial reporting, and privacy on customer-managed infrastructure.
  • Excellent written and asynchronous communication, strong engineering judgment, and a pragmatic approach to reliability.
  • Security-product experience, monitoring frameworks, OpenTelemetry, eBPF, Sentry, AI-assisted development, or Kubernetes experience is advantageous.

Work arrangement

  • The environment is remote-first with flexible working hours and asynchronous collaboration across multiple time zones.
  • The role is described as fully remote and can be performed from anywhere worldwide.

Benefits

  • The package includes 24 paid vacation days, 10 paid national holidays, unlimited sick leave, and private medical insurance support.
  • Additional benefits include co-working reimbursement, gym and sports reimbursement, professional development, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and potential patent-idea rewards.
