About the Role

As a Lead R&D Fitter, you will lead the build, assembly and preparation of Gas Generators and Power Turbines for testing across the product range. Working in a practical test environment, you will ensure engines, rigs, instrumentation and supporting facilities are safely prepared for development and production test activity.

You will work alongside test engineers, mechanical fitters, instrumentation specialists and thermal paint experts. Your work will range from mechanical fitting and Swagelok pipework manufacture to installing sensors on turbine components and investigating faults during test preparation.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the safe and reliable testing of complex rotating equipment. You will also help improve test methods and facilities, contributing directly to product development and manufacturing activity.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Lead the build, assembly, installation and test of complete Gas Generators and Power Turbines across the product range.

Install and test engine and rig instrumentation, including thermocouples, strain gauges and pressure tappings, using dedicated test rigs to verify instrumentation before use.

Support gas turbine development testing, production testing and other departmental test activities as required.

Carry out mechanical fitting activities, fault-finding and troubleshooting on turbines, test rigs and associated facility equipment.

Manufacture Swagelok pipework for turbine and test facility installations, and assist with modifications, additions and improvements to facilities.

Support thermal paint laboratory activities.

Maintain safe, compliant operation of all test facilities and equipment.

What You Bring

A technical engineering background, supported by an HNC or equivalent demonstrable practical experience.

Previous hands-on experience working with rotating equipment, such as gas turbines, steam turbines, compressors, pumps, motors or similar machinery.

Experience with testing rotating equipment.

Practical mechanical assembly and fitting skills gained in an engineering, manufacturing, maintenance or test environment.

Experience of fault-finding and resolving mechanical or test-related issues on complex equipment.

A methodical approach to following technical instructions, operating procedures and safe systems of work.

Willingness to develop skills in specialist test instrumentation, thermal paint application, Swagelok pipework manufacture, forklift truck operation and mobile elevated work platform operation.
