L2 Platform Operations Engineer

About This Role

We are seeking a proactive L2 Platform Operations Engineer to maintain the stability and performance of our Cloud, Kubernetes, and Data platform environments. This role focuses on incident management, L2 troubleshooting, and operational excellence, requiring a dedicated technical specialist who can ensure high service availability while acting as a bridge between L1 support and Vendor L3 to resolve complex infrastructure issues.

Job Purpose:

The L2 Platform Operations Engineer ensures the continuous availability, stability, and performance of the organization’s cloud and containerized infrastructure. This role acts as a critical technical escalation point, specializing in the day-to-day operation and rapid incident recovery of Huawei FusionSphere Cloud, Kubernetes, and data streaming platforms (Kafka/ElasticSearch). By bridging the gap between L1 monitoring and Vendor L3 engineering, the purpose of this role is to maintain seamless service operations through disciplined troubleshooting and execution of operational SOPs, without engaging in architectural or design changes.

Key Responsibilities:

Incident Management & Operations

• Take ownership of escalated incidents from L1 support.
• Perform L2-level troubleshooting to restore service availability.
• Identify whether issues are infrastructure, Kubernetes, application, or data-related.
• Execute recovery actions using approved SOPs and runbooks.
• Escalate complex or recurring issues to Vendor L3 with proper logs, metrics, and evidence.

Cloud & Infrastructure Operations

• Operate and monitor Huawei FusionSphere Cloud (compute, storage, virtualization).
• Perform VM lifecycle operations (start/stop, resize, reimage, snapshot, basic troubleshooting).
• Monitor resource utilization and availability thresholds.
• Support physical server operations related to hosted workloads.

Kubernetes Operations

• Monitor Kubernetes clusters, nodes, pods, and workloads.
• Perform operational tasks such as:
• Pod restarts and rescheduling
• Scaling workloads within predefined limits
• Log and event analysis
• Support containerized applications without modifying cluster architecture or design.

Data & Streaming Platforms (Operational Scope Only)

• Kafka: Monitor broker availability, topic health, and consumer lag
• ElasticSearch: Monitor cluster health, disk usage, and index status
• Big Data Platforms (GaussDB / Libra / Hadoop): Service availability checks, Job failure detection
• Collect diagnostics and escalate tuning or design-related issues to Vendor L3.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

• Maintain operational SOPs, runbooks, and incident records.
• Support L1 engineers during incidents with guidance and technical input.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of monitoring and alerting quality.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Technology or a related field.

Experience

• 6 to 8 years of experience in platform, cloud, or infrastructure operations.
• Hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production environments.
• Linux troubleshooting (CPU, memory, disk, logs)
• Kubernetes operations (non-architectural)
• Basic operational knowledge of Kafka and ElasticSearch
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools
• Strong incident ownership and troubleshooting mindset
• Clear communication during outages
• Ability to work on-call
