The Opportunity

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.

Since 2014, LMA has provided Autonomic Logistics Information System (ALIS) support services to the RAAF and the Commonwealth including Certification and Accreditation, Test Support Services, Sovereign Data Gateway Support and Information Technology Service Management Support. In 2019, these services were consolidated and expanded under the ALIS IMAS Contract, to provide the Commonwealth with a comprehensive long term platform through which to deliver the services together with ALIS System Administration Support and F-35A Mission Support Services, via a cadre of security-cleared and experienced Australian staff.

We are seeking a motivated and technically minded Junior Systems Administrator to join our team supporting critical Defence information systems. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a career in systems administration, technical support, and IT operations within a complex Defence environment. Extensive on-the-job training and mentoring will be provided, making this role ideal for someone who is adaptable, eager to learn, and ready to develop their technical skills. Working alongside experienced team members, you will support users, maintain and monitor systems, assist with software and infrastructure management activities, and contribute to the ongoing operation of mission-critical systems.

This role is ideally suited to candidates who have completed relevant study and gained some practical experience through employment, internships, work placements, cadetships, or similar opportunities. This role will be based in Williamtown, NSW. The start date for this role is Q1 2027.

Key Responsibilities

With training and support from senior team members, you will:

  • Provide technical support to users and assist with troubleshooting hardware, software, and system issues.
  • Create and manage user accounts, access permissions, and system documentation.
  • Support the deployment, maintenance, and configuration of workstations, servers, and applications.
  • Assist with software updates, patching, system releases, and change management activities.
  • Contribute to system security, backup and recovery, and compliance activities.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to resolve issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What you'll bring

This role would suit someone with a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn in a technical environment. While this is an entry-level opportunity with training provided, candidates should demonstrate some prior relevant experience.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Certificate IV, Diploma, or Degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Some relevant experience gained through employment, internships, cadetships, work placements, or IT support roles.
  • Exposure to Windows desktop environments and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic understanding of Windows Server administration, networking concepts, or enterprise IT environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a customer-focused approach.
  • A positive, flexible attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Desirable: Exposure to systems administration, service desk environments, Defence projects, or relevant industry certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, VMware, etc.).
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.
