Junior Accountant – Budgeting & Financial Analysis

About This Role

Job Purpose:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant with strong experience in budgeting and financial analysis within government entities. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience, a degree in accounting, and practical knowledge of IPSAS (International Public Sector Accounting Standards). The candidate should also be proficient in analyzing financial data and providing insightful recommendations, with a solid understanding of the P2P cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets in compliance with IPSAS
• Conduct data analysis to monitor budget performance, identify variances, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
• Prepare financial reports, forecasts, and variance analysis for internal stakeholders.
• Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
• Work closely with other departments to collect and validate budget inputs and financial data.
• Ensure compliance with public sector accounting standards and assist with audit requirements.
• Participate in the development and implementation of budget controls and financial procedures.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in accounting and budgeting, preferably in a government or public sector environment.
• Hands-on experience with IPSAS and knowledge of government financial frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and provide meaningful insights.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools and Oracle
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using ERP or government financial management systems.
• Training or certification in public sector accounting or financial planning is an advantage.
• CMA – Certified management accountant.
