Role Description

The IT Manager role at CESED – Centro de Estudios sobre Seguridad y Drogas is a part-time, hybrid position based in Abu Dhabi, with the flexibility to work remotely for a portion of the week.

The IT Manager will oversee day-to-day IT operations, including maintaining network and server infrastructure, managing user accounts and access, and ensuring system security and data protection.

This role will coordinate hardware and software installation, updates, and troubleshooting for staff, as well as manage relationships with external vendors and service providers.

The IT Manager will implement and monitor backup, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity procedures, and document IT policies, procedures, and asset inventories.

The role will also support technology needs for research, teaching, and outreach activities, and recommend improvements to optimize reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical expertise in network administration, server management, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and user support in a small-to-medium organization.
  • Experience with cybersecurity practices, including endpoint protection, firewalls, access controls, data backup, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Proficiency in managing cloud-based services and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace) and basic database or information management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate IT projects, prioritize tasks, and manage vendors and service contracts within defined budgets.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a service-oriented approach and clear communication with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Previous experience in academic, research, nonprofit, or policy-focused environments is an advantage.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid setting, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection standards.
