Role overview
Leads design strategy, creative development, planning, and execution for interior design or exhibition projects.
Oversees teams and client relationships, coordinates project partners, and drives design quality, business development, budgets, and schedules.
Design and project delivery
- Lead creative direction, concept development, and execution; develop strategies, mood boards, layouts, 3D visualizations, material selections, and proposals.
- Oversee space planning, detailing, materials, lighting, furniture, and visual presentation.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators, and suppliers to deliver feasible designs.
- Manage schedules, budgets, resources, procurement, deliverables, and project approvals.
- Review technical, shop, construction, and fabrication drawings; conduct site visits and inspections to resolve implementation issues.
- Maintain technical, quality, accessibility, and safety standards and monitor design developments.
Team leadership and business development
- Manage design teams, allocate responsibilities, review work, and maintain consistent quality.
- Manage client presentations, design revisions, stakeholder communications, and expectations.
- Support proposals, client pitches, portfolio development, and strategic partnerships.
- Director-level scope may include design standards, multidisciplinary teams, multiple projects, departmental performance, and long-term business strategy.
Candidate requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Exhibition Design, Architecture, Spatial Design, or a related field.
- Extensive relevant design or project-delivery experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Strong portfolio showing creative concepts, technical design capabilities, and completed work.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent tools.
- Strong knowledge of space planning, materials, finishes, lighting, detailing, fabrication, and installation.
- Experience managing teams, budgets, schedules, contractors, and client expectations.
- Strong creative thinking, presentation, communication, negotiation, problem-solving, coordination, and quality-control skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet agreed timelines and budgets.
- Professional design or architecture qualifications are advantageous; director-level leadership and business-development experience is preferred.
