Overview

The **Instrument Technician** is responsible for the inspection, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of general laboratory equipment across university, research, biomedical, health science, and other laboratory facilities.

The role ensures the reliability and functionality of laboratory equipment, supports preventive maintenance activities, and manages work requests through the Oracle Maintenance Management System.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of general laboratory equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on laboratory equipment in accordance with maintenance plans and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment faults and coordinate repairs as required.
  • Attend to Oracle System work requests, including site inspections, evaluations, task execution, and follow-up until completion.
  • Monitor the performance of laboratory equipment and recommend maintenance or replacement actions.
  • Prepare technical reports, maintenance records, and inspection documentation.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with laboratory users, researchers, and facility teams to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new laboratory equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification Requirements

  • Minimum 2-year Technical Certificate in Electronics, Instrumentation, or Biomedical Engineering, or a 3-year Diploma in Electronics/Instrumentation from a recognized university or technical institute.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in laboratory equipment operation and maintenance within a university, hospital, facility management, or construction services environment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), preferably Oracle.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and maintain maintenance documentation.
  • Good communication, problem-solving, and computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications.
