Title: Instructor - Electives - Talent Search Department: TRiO Reports To: Director TRIO Programs Position Type: Staff Position Summary: Cultural/Academic Elective Instructor to provide instruction in a variety of cultural or academic elective topics not limited to, but inclusive of the following topics: Robotics, Coding, Engineering, Drama, Creative Writing, Current Events, Psychology, Sociology, Debate, Communications, Etiquette, Art, Dance, Chess, Karate, Yoga, Mentoring, etc. Will hire individual candidates for each subject, or a candidate qualified to teach multiple subjects. Essential Functions: - Ability to plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive instructional program for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program. - Conduct an integrated Elective class on various topics, ranging from but not limited to: Robotics, Coding, Engineering, Drama, Creative Writing, Current Events, Psychology, Sociology, Debate, Communications, Etiquette, Art, Dance, Chess, Karate, Yoga, Mentoring, etc. - Teach students learning strategies, conduct teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment, manipulative objects, props, and other learning aids. - Prepare and submit a course outline prior to the start of the class. - Complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management. - Make recommendations on students strength and needs. - Report student learning and behavioral issues to the appropriate staff personnel. - Assist with the training and evaluation of Teacher Assistants. - The instructor is required to attend training and meetings. Additional Functions: - Transport students from one class location to another in a timely manner, ensuring proper supervision and safety of students. - Must provide 24 hours notice in the event of an absence. - Classroom work must be prepared for students and the TA must be prepped by the instructor to deliver work or conduct an activity for students. Prerequisite Qualifications: - Two or more years of teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level. - Complete a background clearance check. - An undergraduate or graduate degree in the designated discipline. - Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students at the middle school, high school, or post-secondary level. - At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Information: In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate/range for this position is $40.00-$50.00(USD).

NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
