Role overview

The Insight Analyst combines business analysis with the design and delivery of trusted reports and dashboards.

The analyst works with stakeholders to define decisions, measures, and business rules, then turns reliable data into clear reporting and actionable insight.

The role reports to the Group Data and Governance Manager.

Stakeholder discovery and reporting

  • Lead workshops and discovery sessions to identify decisions, questions, and measures reporting must support.
  • Agree consistent measure definitions, filters, and business rules with data owners.
  • Refine reporting requirements and acceptance criteria using prototypes, demonstrations, and feedback.
  • Build Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and management reports from governed datasets, plus equivalent outputs in other BI platforms.
  • Combine governed information from systems and databases to give users a clearer view of business performance.
  • Identify repetitive spreadsheets and manual reports suitable for reliable automated reporting.
  • Document reporting logic, assumptions, refresh behaviour, ownership, and limitations, and support adoption and appropriate self-service use.

Data design and analysis

  • Design reporting-facing Gold schemas and semantic structures in Fabric, defining grain, dimensions, measures, relationships, and business rules.
  • Specify sources, mappings, transformations, quality checks, refresh needs, and acceptance criteria for Data Engineering; validate delivery against specifications.
  • Work with the technical data team to improve datasets, structures, and processes supporting business reporting.
  • Use SQL to investigate datasets, identify trends and exceptions, answer questions, and find issues for further investigation.
  • Conduct one-off analysis for projects, investigations, and important decisions; test assumptions and provide evidence for recommendations.
  • Explain findings, uncertainty, limitations, and assumptions to stakeholders, and suggest ways to improve organizational use of data.

User support and quality assurance

  • Respond to business questions about data and reporting, including definitions, discrepancies, report behaviour, and access; resolve within remit or route to the appropriate owner.
  • Reconcile outputs to agreed sources, investigate data quality issues, and feed recurring defects or improvements into reporting and engineering backlogs.
  • Apply access, privacy, documentation, and reporting standards, and raise risks to the Data Manager and Governance Lead.

Knowledge and skills

  • Requires advanced Power BI skills in semantic modelling, DAX, report design, and performance, plus SQL proficiency and familiarity with other BI platforms.
  • Requires ability to define measures and business rules and test results against source data.
  • Requires strong stakeholder skills, including leading requirements sessions, challenging assumptions, and explaining findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Requires knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and medallion warehouse and lakehouse architecture, including Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers.

Work arrangement

  • The job description labels the role Full-Time / Remote.

Compensation

  • The posting lists a salary of £50,000 without specifying a compensation cadence.
