Infrastructure Technical Lead (ONSITE - St Ives, Cambridgeshire)
Role Overview
Reporting to the Head of IT, the Infrastructure Technical Lead is responsible for the reliability, security and continuous improvement of the infrastructure that keeps our global business running, across on-premises and cloud environments. This is a genuinely hands-on role for an experienced infrastructure engineer who enjoys solving complex problems while guiding and developing a small IT team. You’ll own the platforms, lead the projects that modernise them, and have real scope to shape how we use automation and AI in IT operations. The role is based on site in St Ives, Cambridgeshire (a minimum of 4 days per week). You will take part in occasional out-of-hours, weekend and on-call support.
In this role, a typical day will look like:
Owning our Windows Server, Active Directory and Hyper-V environments, including provisioning, performance, capacity and lifecycle.
Managing Azure and AWS infrastructure, enterprise NetApp storage, and backup and disaster recovery.
Acting as the senior escalation point for infrastructure incidents, leading root-cause analysis and delivering permanent fixes.
Leading patch management, vulnerability remediation and security hardening across servers and cloud.
Building PowerShell automation and finding opportunities to use automation and AI to make IT more efficient and reliable.
Providing technical leadership and mentoring to a team of 3–4 IT professionals, and leading infrastructure projects with vendors and internal stakeholders.
The essential requirements of the job include:
8+ years of IT experience, including senior or 3rd-line ownership of enterprise infrastructure.
In-depth hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, GPO, DNS/DHCP and enterprise virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware).
Hands-on administration of Azure and/or AWS infrastructure, including security configuration, patching and troubleshooting.
Proven experience with server patching, vulnerability remediation, backup/DR, and PowerShell scripting.
