Role Summary
The Industrial Painter prepares surfaces and applies protective coatings to aircraft refueling vehicles and pressure vessels, ensuring durable, high-quality finishes compliant with aviation and industrial standards.
Role Responsibilities
- Surface preparation: Cleaning, scraping, sanding, and stripping surfaces to remove old paint, rust, or other contaminants.
- Coating application: Applying paint, varnish, and other finishes using spray guns, brushes, rollers, or automated equipment. This includes applying primer and other coatings according to specifications.
- Paint mixing and color matching: Mixing paints to achieve the required colors and specifications, sometimes using automated or manual mixing equipment.
- Equipment maintenance: Cleaning, maintaining, and troubleshooting painting tools, spray guns, and other equipment.
- Safety compliance: Adhering to strict safety procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE) like respirators and safety glasses, and properly handling and disposing of hazardous waste.
- Quality control: Ensuring a high-quality finish by using tools like viscosity cups and thickness gauges, and performing touch-ups as needed.
Educational Qualifications
Vocational certification in Industrial Painting or Surface Coating
Experience
3–5 years in industrial or automotive painting, preferably with aviation or heavy equipment
Behavioral Skills
- Physical stamina, good hand-eye coordination, and strength for tasks like lifting heavy materials.
- Comfort working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Strong attention to detail and good colour perception.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with various painting techniques and tools, such as spray guns, brushes, and rollers.
- Knowledge of different types of paints, coatings, and their applications.
- Knowledge of aviation-approved coatings and corrosion protection systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and blueprints.
Essential Requirements
Formal Qualifications in industrial painting or equivalent
Min 3 years’ experience in a similar role
