Role overview

Lead HSE management for large-scale renewable energy development, including solar PV, battery storage, electrical facilities, and grid interconnection works.

Support development and delivery across head-office coordination and multiple project sites, working with project teams, contractors, manufacturers, and stakeholders.

HSE leadership and delivery

  • Develop and improve the project HSE management plan and procedures in line with applicable requirements.
  • Provide HSE leadership through development, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Coordinate HSE matters as the primary contact for project leadership, contractors, consultants, manufacturers, utilities, grid stakeholders, and authorities.
  • Establish governance covering solar PV, battery storage, electrical facilities, grid connections, temporary facilities, and logistics.
  • Review designs and execution plans to identify and reduce risks; approve contractor HSE plans, risk assessments, method statements, lifting plans, and emergency arrangements.
  • Lead risk assessments for high-risk electrical, battery, lifting, height, excavation, confined-space, hot-work, interface, and simultaneous-operation activities.
  • Manage and mentor HSE personnel and conduct site inspections, safety walks, audits, and joint inspections.
  • Monitor contractor HSE performance and corrective actions, tracking findings to closure.

Training, incident, and environmental duties

  • Deliver inductions, briefings, awareness campaigns, and targeted training for employees and contractors.
  • Develop and test emergency arrangements for construction, electrical, battery, fire, environmental, and medical emergencies.
  • Oversee incident notification, investigation, root-cause analysis, lessons learned, and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate waste, spill, dust, noise, hazardous-material, biodiversity, and regulatory environmental controls.
  • Prepare HSE reports, dashboards, and management updates; facilitate stakeholder meetings and promote an intervention-led safety culture.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a relevant discipline.
  • At least 15 years of relevant HSE experience, including substantial work on major power, renewable energy, energy storage, electrical infrastructure, or similarly complex construction programmes.
  • Knowledge of solar PV, battery energy storage, high-voltage systems, substations, and grid interconnection HSE risks.
  • Understanding of construction HSE, contractor assurance, design risk management, commissioning, and energization controls.

Skills and tools

  • Leadership, influencing, stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, investigation, and report writing.
  • Ability to prioritize risks, challenge unsafe practices, and provide practical technical solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital HSE reporting or action-tracking systems.
