  • Monitor higher-risk activities and assist project teams with developing and implementing effective controls before work begins.

Incident Prevention, Investigation & Follow-Up

  • Support the reporting, investigation, and documentation of incidents, near misses, property damage, environmental events, and other HSE occurrences.
  • Analyze incidents and trends to identify direct and root causes and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

Training, Communication & Engagement

  • Coordinate and support required HSE training, orientations, competency assessments, and refresher training for employees and project teams.
  • Deliver or support toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and targeted training based on project activities and identified risks.
  • Communicate HSE expectations, regulatory requirements, hazards, and corrective actions clearly to workers and supervisors.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Forepersons, and workers to strengthen safety ownership and encourage proactive hazard reporting.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records and provide regular updates to the HSE Manager and project leadership on key activities, trends, and outstanding concerns.

HSE Program Improvement & Risk Management

  • Identify opportunities to improve HSE processes, field practices, documentation, and overall safety performance.
  • Analyze inspection, incident, training, and other HSE data to identify trends and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of company and project HSE programs, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure project teams understand and apply applicable Ontario occupational health and safety, environmental, and construction requirements.
  • Support the preparation and review of project-specific HSE documentation and assist with pre-start planning for new projects and activities.

Position Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in an HSE/Safety role, preferably within the construction, civil construction, infrastructure, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario occupational health and safety legislation, construction safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Experience conducting workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective-action follow-up.
  • Experience supporting or delivering safety orientations, toolbox talks, training, and worker competency programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with project management, supervisors, forepersons, workers, and subcontractors.
