Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Writer role based in the City of Cape Town.
The Writer will develop original scripts, treatments, and story outlines for film, television, and digital content.
Day-to-day responsibilities include generating concepts, conducting background research, drafting and revising scripts, and collaborating with directors, producers, and other creatives to refine story arcs and character development.
The role involves adapting ideas into clear, production-ready material, incorporating feedback from multiple stakeholders, and ensuring consistency in tone, structure, and pacing.
The Writer will also participate in creative brainstorming sessions, support pitch document preparation, and maintain organized documentation of drafts, notes, and revisions.
Qualifications
- Strong scriptwriting and narrative development skills, with the ability to craft engaging characters, dialogue, and story structure for screen-based content.
- Demonstrated experience generating original concepts and adapting ideas or source material into scripts, treatments, and outlines.
- Ability to conduct targeted research to inform story authenticity, setting, and character backgrounds.
- Skilled in revising and polishing drafts based on feedback from creative and production teams, while maintaining the core vision of the story.
- Excellent written communication skills in English, with strong attention to detail, grammar, and clarity.
- Comfort working in a collaborative, on-site environment, including participation in writers’ rooms, workshops, and feedback sessions.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and track versions and notes efficiently.
- Previous experience in film, television, or digital media writing is strongly preferred; a portfolio or writing samples demonstrating produced or well-developed work is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Screenwriting, Film, Creative Writing, or a related field is beneficial, or equivalent professional experience.
- Interest in the South African and global film/TV landscape, with awareness of current storytelling trends and audience preferences.
