Role Description

The High School Anatomy Teacher is a full-time, on-site role located in Santa Ynez, CA.

This educator designs and delivers engaging high school anatomy lessons that emphasize structure and function of the human body, scientific reasoning, and real-world applications.

Daily responsibilities include planning and teaching classes, creating assessments, providing timely feedback, and maintaining accurate records of student progress.

The teacher collaborates with colleagues on curriculum development, interdisciplinary projects, and alignment with departmental and school-wide goals.

Additional duties may include advising students, supporting co-curricular or residential life programs, communicating regularly with families, and contributing to the positive, values-driven culture of Dunn School.

Qualifications

  • Strong content knowledge in anatomy, human biology, or related life sciences, with the ability to make complex concepts accessible and relevant for high school learners.
  • Experience designing and implementing engaging, student-centered lessons, labs, and assessments that support diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Effective classroom management and a commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and emotionally safe learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, and colleagues in a close-knit school community.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Anatomy, Science Education, or a related field required; advanced degree or teaching credential preferred.
  • Prior high school teaching experience, ideally in anatomy or related science courses; experience in independent or boarding schools is a plus.
  • Commitment to Dunn School’s mission and core values, including student well-being, social responsibility, and holistic development.
  • Willingness to participate in school life beyond the classroom, such as advisory, clubs, athletics, or residential responsibilities, as needed.
