Job Title: HSE Engineer – Green Hydrogen / Ammonia Plant

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified HSE Engineer to ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance during project execution, commissioning, and O&M phases of a continuous chemical process plant.

The role focuses on process safety, statutory compliance, hazard identification, and safe handling of hazardous chemicals such as hydrogen and ammonia.

HSE – Operation & Maintenance Phase

  • Implement and monitor HSE management systems at site.
  • Ensure safe operation of green hydrogen units, ammonia synthesis & storage systems, and utilities.
  • Manage PTW, LOTO, confined space entry, and hot work permits.
  • Participate in HAZOP, HIRA, JSA, What-If analysis, and MoC reviews.
  • Monitor safe handling and storage of hazardous chemicals (hydrogen, ammonia, nitrogen, solvents).
  • Investigate incidents/near misses, conduct RCA, and implement corrective actions.
  • Support emergency response plans, mock drills, and safety preparedness.

HSE – Project & Commissioning Phase

  • Support HSE activities during engineering, construction, pre-commissioning, and start-up.
  • Review PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, hazardous area classification, and safety philosophies.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL/LOPA, and PSSR activities.
  • Monitor contractor safety and high-risk construction activities.
  • Ensure safe execution of lifting, hot work, and commissioning operations.

Statutory & Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with statutory safety regulations, Factory Inspectorate, and environmental norms.
  • Maintain records for audits, hazardous chemical handling, and training certifications.
  • Monitor effluent, emissions, and waste management compliance.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain safety manuals, SOPs, risk assessments, and incident records.
  • Prepare monthly HSE reports and track KPIs (LTIFR, near-miss reporting, unsafe acts closure).

Qualification & Experience

  • B.E./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering (Mandatory)
  • 4–5 years of HSE experience in Chemical / Petrochemical / Fertilizer / Ammonia / Hydrogen / Energy transition projects
  • Exposure to continuous process plants preferred
  • Strong knowledge of process safety and hazardous chemical handling
