Key responsibilities
- Own engineering activities across the business and establish engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Align engineering plans with business objectives and operational needs, including price, quality, and delivery targets.
- Evaluate business challenges, mitigate risks, and develop opportunities.
- Provide technical support to business development, estimating, and onsite engineering teams.
- Plan and prioritize multidisciplinary resources for project delivery.
- Ensure new equipment and engineering activity have appropriate qualification documentation and records.
- Coordinate with Operations on manufacturability, quality, safety, environmental standards, and cost targets.
- Support cross-functional project execution and report engineering KPIs to senior management.
- Ensure engineering, quality, environmental, health, and safety standards are followed.
- Set department objectives, monitor performance, communicate across teams, and drive change and improvements.
- Complete performance reviews and manage attendance, holidays, and disciplinary procedures as appropriate.
- Follow safety procedures, wear required protective clothing, and use appropriate safety equipment.
Candidate requirements
- Proven leadership and management skills, including optimizing team performance and development.
- Degree-level education in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent NVQ Level 7 qualification; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience leading an engineering function and delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes, and systems.
- Strong relationship management, stakeholder and supplier engagement, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Results-oriented, able to plan and deliver against project deadlines, and commercially and financially astute with budget management experience.
