Role overview

The Technical Area Lead for Legal is BCG’s foremost technical authority on legal technology.

The role connects legal strategy with technical execution across platforms, teams, and stakeholders.

The scope spans contract lifecycle management, conflicts, legal knowledge management, eDiscovery, litigation support, matter management, insurance, corporate elections, and agentic AI.

Strategy and delivery

  • Create and deliver the Legal Portfolio vision, strategy, and outcomes.
  • Oversee legal platforms and ensure they operate cohesively across the technology ecosystem.
  • Guide delivery trade-offs, platform and vendor selection, SDLC practices, and technology and AI quality metrics.
  • Monitor emerging legal technology, agentic AI, and automation opportunities.
  • Ensure programs support portfolio risk, compliance, and commercial ambitions.
  • Escalate cross-team or cross-system issues and support timely resolution.

Leadership and governance

  • Lead chapter leads and specialists in software engineering and AI, SaaS engineering, quality assurance, data, and L2 operations.
  • Collaborate across Legal, Technology, Data, business functions, and governance teams.
  • Align legal technology with enterprise architecture principles and BCG standards.

Requirements

  • Provide deep technical legal-technology expertise and leadership across cross-functional transformation.
  • Lead legal technology chapter leads and specialists across software engineering and AI, SaaS engineering, quality assurance, data, and L2 operations.
  • Set technical direction, architecture, and standards for legal technology capabilities and programs.
  • Manage external vendor relationships where relevant.
  • Align legal technology with enterprise architecture, risk, compliance, and commercial priorities.
