Role overview
The General Manager runs the cafe day to day, balancing hands-on service with administration and leadership.
Reports to the Operations Manager and owners and line-manages the Kitchen Manager.
Key responsibilities
- Lead daily cafe operations and maintain customer service standards.
- Manage budgets, labour costs, gross profit targets, rotas, ordering, stock and waste.
- Coordinate catering orders and internal and external events.
- Maintain premises, equipment, food safety and health and safety standards.
- Recruit, train, support and develop the team; establish brand standards and improve the business.
Essential criteria
- Proven management experience in a cafe, restaurant, bar or similar setting.
- Experience leading at least five staff on shift and 14 or more overall, including supervisors.
- Confidence with budgets, labour costs and stock control; strong customer service, organisation and communication.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene and good allergen-management knowledge; Level 3 is preferred.
Desirable criteria
- Personal Licence, valid driving licence, event or catering experience, independent business experience, or experience establishing systems, standards or training are desirable.
Employment and pay
- Full-time, permanent role.
- Pay starts at £29,000 per year.
