- ABOUT THE GEAR UP GRANT: GEAR UP is a federally funded Title III Grant. Wonderful College Prep Academy, in partnership with Avenal and Sanger Unified School Districts, will work with 6th and 7th-grade students from four middle schools to prepare them for college. The Federal Department of Education website for GEAR UP is http://www2.ed.gov/programs/gearup/index.html.
- This discretionary grant program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides seven-year grants to states and partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school and their first year of college.
- College graduate or be enrolled in college and have completed freshman English, college math (Algebra II).
- At least one year of tutoring experience.
- An eager, flexible learner and problem solver who feels comfortable taking initiative.
- A self-starter with exceptional work ethic and the ability to work well away from colleagues and management.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- An ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with scholars.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Pay: $18.00/hour
