The Role
We are looking for a
Senior Game Server Backend Engineer
who has built and scaled real-time multiplayer backend systems and knows what it takes to keep them alive under massive player load.
As one of the first engineers on the team, your architectural decisions will shape the foundation of everything we build.
Responsibilities
- **Infrastructure:**
- Design and build scalable, high-performance game server infrastructure for a large-scale RTS game.
- **Architecture:**
- Architect backend systems for matchmaking, leaderboards, player progression, and live events.
- **Integration:**
- Evaluate and integrate multiplayer frameworks (Nakama, Photon, PlayFab, GameLift, or custom solutions).
- **API Development:**
- Build and maintain APIs consumed by Unity game clients.
- **Scalability:**
- Design for millions of concurrent users (CCU) from day one.
- **Testing:**
- Own load testing, stress testing, and performance benchmarking.
- **Collaboration:**
- Work closely with Unity engineers, designers, and DevOps to ensure a seamless experience.
- **Security:**
- Own performance, reliability, and security of backend systems end-to-end.
Qualifications
- **Expertise:**
- Strong backend engineering focus on real-time multiplayer services (Nakama, Photon, PlayFab, etc.).
- **Cloud Platforms:**
- Hands-on experience with AWS (GameLift, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB) or GCP/Azure equivalents.
- **Containerization:**
Experience
- with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments.
- **Networking:**
- Familiarity with Unity networking, server authority models, and latency optimization.
- **Scaling:**
Experience
- with horizontal scaling and database optimization under high concurrency.
- **Testing Tools:**
Experience
- with k6, Gatling, Locust, or similar.
- **Security:**
- Implementation of anti-cheat systems and game security measures (Core Requirement).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience shipping a live mobile strategy or MMO game.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment.
- Expertise in game economy security and exploit prevention.
