Role overview

Senior technical leadership role on Scotiabank’s Data & AI Technology team.

Design, build, and scale enterprise data management capabilities across metadata, discovery, governance, lineage, quality, security, and platform integration.

Develop secure, resilient user experiences, APIs, services, and automation that help teams find, understand, trust, govern, and use data.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical design and delivery of enterprise data management capabilities, including metadata, discovery, lineage, quality, policy enforcement, access controls, and integrations.
  • Lead secure, accessible, responsive applications, reusable UI components, RESTful APIs, microservices, event-driven integrations, and data-processing services.
  • Lead design reviews, resolve complex engineering challenges, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and manage dependencies and technical risk.
  • Establish practices for automated testing, secure coding, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, performance, production readiness, and operational support.
  • Partner with product, governance, architecture, cybersecurity, and platform teams on technical roadmaps and deliverable solutions.
  • Mentor engineers, provide feedback, and foster ownership, collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate technical decisions and align stakeholders on delivery priorities, risks, and enterprise outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years designing and delivering enterprise-scale, production-grade full-stack applications and distributed systems.
  • Advanced Java skills, including Spring Boot or comparable frameworks, domain-driven design, design patterns, concurrency, performance optimization, and automated testing.
  • Strong frontend experience with React or Angular, TypeScript, state management, component patterns, responsive design, accessibility, and frontend testing.
  • Experience designing secure APIs, microservices, event-driven services, and integrations; knowledge of authentication, authorization, versioning, resiliency, and API lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure or GCP, containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code such as Terraform, and production observability.
  • Ability to lead technical decisions, influence teams, mentor engineers, and communicate architecture, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations.
  • Strong ownership, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and pragmatic judgment balancing security, reliability, performance, maintainability, and customer outcomes.
