Java full-stack developer role on a Mastek multi-vendor programme for a central government department.
The programme will develop next-generation UK biometric capability to replace and integrate with legacy systems and other government departments.
The developer will design and develop cloud-native applications using modern technologies.
Workplace
- Work mode is hybrid; the listed work location is Reading, UK.
Required skills and experience
- 8+ years of experience.
- Extensive hands-on server-side Java 8+ experience with Spring, Spring Boot, and Hibernate.
- Strong understanding of microservice architecture and experience building REST web services and APIs.
- Experience with unit and integration testing, TDD or BDD, and test frameworks including JUnit, Mockito, PowerMockito, and WireMock.
- Experience with CI/CD using Docker, Jenkins, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, and Mustache templates.
- Experience leading Java developers, Agile methodologies, relational databases, and communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop Java applications, APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications.
- Collaborate with teams to integrate software components in a shared code base.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold best practices and coding standards.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions and propose solutions to complex system problems.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance.
- Own Scrum team timelines and deliverables.
Additional and preferred skills
- Preferred: SC clearance.
- Advantageous: workflow or business process management tools; JMeter, Kibana, Splunk, or Dynatrace; shell scripting; Python; AWS services; Apache Camel; ActiveMQ; and public-sector domain experience.
