Location and working pattern
- The role is based in Poole, Dorset.
- Hybrid working is available after successful completion of training.
- Hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain web applications, backend services, APIs, and business logic; integrate ecommerce, ERP, warehouse, finance, and supplier systems.
- Develop and optimize SQL and data-processing solutions; investigate data integrity and performance issues.
- Resolve defects, integration failures, and production incidents, and improve legacy applications and technical debt.
- Use secure coding, version control, peer review, automated testing, and controlled releases.
- Coordinate with technical, business, operational, and supplier stakeholders; communicate progress and risks and maintain documentation.
- Improve automation, reliability, integration controls, CI/CD, monitoring, deployment practices, and engineering standards.
- Support AI-enabled applications and intelligent workflows where appropriate; prior AI experience is not essential.
Essential qualifications and experience
- Relevant software engineering qualification, apprenticeship, or equivalent commercial development experience.
- Commercial production software development and support experience, ideally around 5–10 years.
- Experience delivering full-stack applications through requirements, testing, and deployment; developing or integrating APIs and using relational databases.
- Experience supporting production systems and resolving complex application or integration incidents.
- Experience working collaboratively with developers, QA, and business stakeholders.
Essential skills and knowledge
- Strong full-stack web development skills, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Backend services, REST APIs, application integrations, and modern frontend frameworks or component-based web development.
- SQL, relational databases, transactions, data integrity, performance, and data processing.
- Analytical debugging, root-cause analysis, problem-solving, and ability to produce secure, maintainable, tested, documented software.
- Server-side development, authentication, application architecture, version control, secure engineering, and software testing principles.
- One or more of C#/.NET, PHP, Go, React, Angular, Vue, or Node.js.
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Development, cloud, or DevOps certification.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment tooling.
- Enterprise integration patterns and JSON, XML, CSV, or EDI formats.
- AI APIs, intelligent automation, or agentic workflows.
