The Role
We are seeking a talented Freelance Design Consultant to join BAMS on a project basis.
You will work directly with clients to deliver expert design consultation across additive manufacturing workflows, from initial concept feasibility through to optimised, production-ready geometry.
This is a remote-friendly, project-based engagement ideal for a highly skilled engineer or designer with hands-on AM experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) consultation to clients across automotive, aerospace, and medical sectors
- Conduct topology optimisation and generative design studies to achieve lightweight, high-performance part geometries
- Perform technology and feasibility audits to assess project readiness for AM production
- Support manufacturing matchmaking by identifying appropriate AM partners and production routes (polymer and metal platforms)
- Deliver clear, jargon-free technical guidance aligned with BAMS' white-glove client experience
- Collaborate with the studio founder on project strategy, client deliverables, and design reviews
Requirements
- Proven experience in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), generative design, or topology optimisation
- Proficiency in at least one CAD or simulation tool: nTopology, Altair Inspire, CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent
- Background in industrial AM on polymer and/or metal platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to translate complex engineering concepts for non-technical clients
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and capable of delivering high-quality work independently
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or a related engineering field preferred
- Nice to Have
- Experience with metal AM processes (SLM, DMLS, or EBM)
- Exposure to automotive, motorsport, or medical device sectors
- Previous consulting or client-facing freelance experience
- Based in Dubai or the UAE (not required — remote engagement considered)
