Role Overview
The Fitter cuts, fits, welds, and assembles metal components for truck bodies and equipment during upfitting.
The role ensures structural accuracy, quality workmanship, and safe completion of fabrication tasks.
Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and work orders to determine materials, dimensions, and assembly requirements.
- Plan fabrication tasks for efficient workflow and material usage.
- Lay out, measure, mark, cut, drill, fit, and assemble metal components.
- Fit and align decks, subframes, brackets, crossmembers, and toolboxes.
- Perform MIG, stick, or flux-core welding on varied steel thicknesses.
- Assemble and weld structural frames, decks, bumpers, hitches, and custom fabrications.
- Repair or modify truck bodies, subframes, and components.
- Operate hoists, cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment safely.
- Maintain fabrication equipment and document completed work and issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe work area and support continuous improvement.
What We Look For
- Minimum 5 years of fitting experience in a heavy plate or structural steel fabrication shop.
- Trade certification or journeyperson certification.
- MIG welding proficiency; stick and flux-core welding knowledge are assets.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication layouts.
- Ability to work shifts, overtime, or flexible hours as production schedules require.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, communication, time-management, and teamwork skills.
