Firmware Engineer

Qualifications

• The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years of industry experience in embedded firmware development, testing, debugging, and deployment.
• Experience developing firmware for microcontroller and microprocessor-based systems.
• Strong proficiency in Embedded C/C++ development within embedded and real-time environments.
• Understanding of embedded software design principles, real-time operating systems, interrupt-driven systems, memory management, and software debugging techniques.
• Experience working with peripheral interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, and USB.
• Experience with embedded debugging, board bring-up, and hardware-software integration.
• Experience developing or supporting industrial communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870, or similar.
• Experience working with embedded Linux and/or RTOS-based systems.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional engineering team.
• Preferred Skills
• Experience developing products for the electrical power, utility, industrial automation, or critical infrastructure sectors.
• Experience with Digital Fault Recording (DFR), Power Quality (PQ), PMU, GIS monitoring, transformer monitoring, partial discharge monitoring, or related applications.
• Experience with bare-metal firmware development on ARM Cortex-M or similar embedded architectures.
• Experience with RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS, ThreadX, Zephyr, or similar.
• Familiarity with Board Support Packages (BSPs), bootloaders, and device driver development.
• Experience with Ethernet networking, managed switches, PTP, NTP, and time-synchronised systems.
• Experience troubleshooting communications using tools such as Wireshark.
• Familiarity with JTAG, SWD, logic analysers, and embedded debugging tools.
• Knowledge of software testing, automated test frameworks, and CI/CD practices.
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure firmware development practices.
• Experience with Python or other scripting languages for automation and test development.
• Experience using JIRA, Confluence, and Agile Scrum methodologies.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools and techniques.
• Exposure to FPGA-based systems or FPGA integration would be advantageous.
