Monitoring Hot Work Areas
Continuously monitor areas where hot work (welding, grinding, cutting, etc.) is being performed to detect any signs of fire, sparks, or smoldering materials.
Keep a constant watch for any potential fire hazards and immediately report any unsafe conditions or activities to the supervisor or safety officer.
Ensure that fire extinguishing equipment, such as fire extinguishers and hoses, is readily available and functional.
Fire Prevention
Identify and eliminate any potential ignition sources or fire risks in the work area before work begins.
Ensure that flammable materials, gases, and liquids are safely stored or removed from the hot work area.
Ensure that fire-resistant blankets or shields are in place to protect surrounding areas from sparks or molten metal.
Fire Watch During and After Hot Work
Remain on-site and continuously monitor the hot work area for at least 30 minutes after the work is completed to ensure that no fires have ignited and smoldering materials are extinguished.
Check for hidden embers or sparks that may have fallen outside the designated work area.
Report any potential or ongoing fire hazards to the supervisor immediately.
Emergency Response
Be prepared to respond immediately to any fire incidents, using the correct fire-fighting equipment to suppress the fire or alert emergency personnel if necessary.
Follow the appropriate emergency protocols and evacuation procedures in case of a fire emergency.
Assist in the evacuation of personnel if required and ensure that all personnel are accounted for.
Safety Compliance
Ensure that the work environment complies with all relevant fire safety regulations, including local fire codes and safety standards.
Ensure all personnel working in the area are aware of fire safety procedures and the location of fire equipment.
Conduct regular safety checks to ensure that no unauthorized personnel are within the hot work area.
Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain records of fire watch inspections and safety checks, and report any issues or discrepancies to the supervisor.
Report any incidents or near-misses involving fire hazards to management and the safety team for investigation.
Preventing Smoke and Fumes
Ensure proper ventilation of the work area to minimize the accumulation of smoke, fumes, or toxic gases that may pose a fire hazard.
Make sure that nearby personnel are not exposed to harmful gases or smoke produced during hot work.
Coordination with Safety Team
Coordinate with the safety officers, supervisors, and other workers on-site to ensure all safety protocols are being followed.
Participate in safety briefings, fire drills, and training to stay updated on fire prevention measures and emergency response procedures.
