Analyzes data quality and supports testing and implementation activities related to system changes.
Essential job functions
- Respond to report and data requests by understanding objectives, refining requirements, and communicating estimated effort and timelines.
- Extract data from Cognos ReportNet, OBIEE Answers, similar query interfaces, relational databases, data warehouses, and other data stores.
- Format data for business use in Excel, Access, or similar tools; produce manual and automated reports and maintain scripts and macros.
- Support application testing for enhancements and upgrades, and identify and communicate data quality issues or differences.
- Create intuitive reports and document data characteristics and limitations for users.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of data for at least one line of business and support its data needs.
- Communicate proactively, collaborate with teammates, make realistic commitments, and deliver assigned work accountably.
Education and experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or a related field is preferred.
- External candidates need 2+ years of experience in data extraction, manipulation, and presentation.
- For internal candidates, 2+ years of Farmers or other insurance claims experience is preferred; technical data-query and manipulation experience is also described.
Special skill requirements
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, AutoFilter, and formulas.
- Proficiency with BI query tools such as Cognos ReportNet, OBIEE Answers, BusinessObjects, or similar systems; STATISTICA is preferred.
- Proficiency with Access for loading data, writing queries, and manipulating data.
- Proficiency with basic SQL queries involving a few tables and limited criteria.
Work setting
