About Cheenta

Cheenta Academy is an Olympiad- and research-oriented mathematics and science institution serving approximately 1,000 students globally.

Its programs include Olympiad training, research and publication, and leadership programs; it operates Panini8, an in-house academic management platform.

Role overview

The Assistant Faculty and Researcher teaches non-routine physics and contributes to research projects under senior-faculty mentorship.

The position is intended for a strong problem solver interested in an academic research career; substantial in-house training is provided, and prior teaching credentials are not essential.

Weekly commitment is 40 hours: 20 hours of teaching sessions, 10 hours of mentored research, and 10 hours of preparation, grading, and feedback.

Teaching and research responsibilities

  • Teach scheduled problem-first physics sessions and lead Olympiad-style work in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, waves and optics, and modern physics.
  • Adapt depth and pace to student groups, keep sessions rigorous and engaging, and record material covered.
  • Contribute to mentored research by reading and presenting guided problems, papers, and results, and maintaining organized notes and write-ups.
  • Prepare problem sets and session plans, grade assessments, provide written feedback, track student progress, and coordinate with faculty on groups, content, and the academic calendar.

Required qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Physics or near completion; exceptional bachelor's-level candidates with a strong problem-solving record may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for non-routine problem solving; a formal Olympiad record is not required.
  • Genuine interest in research and pursuing higher academic study over time.
  • Clear spoken and written English and confidence teaching live.
  • Willingness to work the in-office night shift in Kolkata.

Preferred qualifications

  • Physics teaching or mentoring experience is a plus but is not expected.
  • Research exposure through project work, a thesis, publications, or sustained reading beyond coursework is preferred.
  • LaTeX familiarity is preferred; laboratory reasoning, data analysis, numerical tools, or experimental and computational physics experience is welcome.
  • Basic Bengali familiarity and comfort with online or blended teaching tools and academic platforms are welcome.

Workplace and schedule

  • Full-time, office-based position in Kolkata; in-person work is required.
  • Night shift runs 11:00 PM–8:00 AM IST and aligns with overseas student sessions; daily handover is coordinated with the day-shift team.
  • During probation, the workweek is six days, including weekends, with one scheduled weekday off; probation lasts six months with reviews at months three and six.

Compensation and benefits

  • Pay is ₹27,000–₹40,000 per month, in hand, based on skill and experience; the night shift carries the higher salary band.
  • Health insurance for the employee and statutory benefits as applicable.
  • Equipment, software access, and reference materials are provided.

Role scope and development

Research direction and project design remain with senior faculty; this is a mentored contributing role, not an independent research position.

Teaching follows Cheenta's problem-first approach, with curriculum and pedagogy direction retained by senior faculty.

Structured mentoring supports academic development, including guidance on reading, research direction, and applications to PhD and graduate programs.

Application materials and assessment

  • Applicants must provide a current CV, a note of 200 words or fewer about their interest in problem solving and research and academic goals, and an approximately one-page solved write-up of a non-routine physics problem.
  • Shortlisted candidates complete a problem-solving and teaching assessment and an interview with senior faculty and the Director; applications without a solved-problem write-up will not be reviewed.
